Position Title:  GIS Technician

Project Location:  84 Fourth Street, Ashland, Oregon
Position Summary: The GIS Technician will provide direct GIS support services to our Climate Futures Forum projects by analyzing climate change projection data and producing the maps and graphs necessary to help communities understand what climate induced disturbances they are likely to experience in the coming decades. The Technician will assist with facilitating science workshops in the communities that are hosting Climate Change Futures Forums and in writing the technical aspects of the final reports for each pilot project site.
General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to):
* Processing data and creating maps using ESRI software
* Summarizing data and producing publication quality graphs
* Providing facilitation support for Climate Futures Forum science workshops
* Assist in writing technical reports
* Other GIS and cartographic tasks as needed.
* Complete and submit all necessary NCCSP, NWSA and AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
* Wear an NWSA uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.
Position Requirements:
* BA/BS in Geography, Computer Science, Natural Resources or related field. Related work experience and professional training may be substituted for education.
* Demonstrated skills using ArcGIS
* Demonstrated skills working with vector and raster data types
* 18 years of age or older, at beginning of service term.
* U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
* Ability to commit to the full term of service for which you are applying.
* Successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through NWSA and/or Project Sponsor Agency.
* Regular and reliable attendance.
* Have not previously served two terms in an AmeriCorps*State or National program. Members may serve up to three terms in a National Service Program, but only two terms may be within an AmeriCorps*State or National program. Members are only eligible for an education award for their first two terms of service, regardless of the type of term (full or part-time) and regardless of the successful completion of that term.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience programming GIS applications in Python and/or Visual Basic
* Working with Climate Data in NetCDF format
* Training in Cartography
* Experience with the ArcHydro data model and the NHDPlus dataset
* Climate and/or hydrology modeling experience

Project Location:  501 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Suite 600, Portland, Oregon
Position Summary: The CROPS Coordinator will organize the planting, maintenance and harvesting of an emergency food garden on an acre of surplus country property in partnership with the Oregon Food Bank and other community partners. The position will work with the County CROPS advisory board to ensure productive yields and sustainable practices.
General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to):
* Plan and coordinate the day to day maintenance of the garden for summer and fall crops
* Partner and coordinate with Multnomah County’s Adult Community Service Program
* Measure and track garden yield
* Demonstrate proper gardening techniques to volunteers
* Provide written status updates to District 2 and County Board
* Assist District 2 and Multnomah County Sustainability with other food related initiatives
* Ensure garden site is locked and secure after activity
* Ensure all activity at the garden complies with property rules and regulations

Position Requirements:
* Previous organic or sustainable farming or large scale gardening experience
* Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation.
* Ability to successfully pass a drug test (random or otherwise) conducted by project sponsor.
* 18 years of age or older, at beginning of service term.
* U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
* Ability to commit to the full term of service for which you are applying.

P2 In a Nutshell

 Drawing on the experience of working with thousands of people entering the workforce, P2 has been designed to recruit highly qualified men and women to serve on compelling, environmentally focused projects. These 1700 hour service commitments offer participating organizations access to highly valued and specialized skillsets, such as GIS, planning and statistical analysis, grant writing, and other organizational process skills. Our program is an excellent project management resource for small organizations and can serve as a transitional program for larger entities, expanding their teams and the scope of their work. Restoration Project Manager: Scappoose Bay Watershed Council-(filled)

Position Title: Restoration Project Manager

Organization’s Mission: Working towards healthy communities and creeks from headwaters to bay.

Position Summary: The Restoration Project Manager (RPM) will work with the Watershed Council and council staff to identify and implement restoration projects that will help to improve the overall health of the watershed. Restoration projects will focus on protecting and restoring creek corridors and wetlands. The RPM will work closely with public and private property owners to both develop and implement on-the-ground projects (50%). The RPM will help to maintain native plant nurseries at two local high schools (20%). The RPM will work with monitoring staff to determine appropriate monitoring requirments for projects (20%). The RPM will work with the Coordinator to review available information about the watershed; identify additional restoration needs; and develop long-term project priorities for the watershed (10%).

This is an AmeriCorps position with the newly created Professional Placement program (P2), offered through the Northwest Service Academy’s Lower Columbia Center. General Responsibilities (to include, but not limited to):
* Work with public and private landowners to design and implement habitat restoration projects.
* Work with the Council Coordinator to identify and develop scopes of work for new projects.
* Work with local high schools and volunteers to maintain two native plant nurseries * Work with monitoring staff to develop monitoring plans for projects.
* Maintain project files and work with the Coordinator to ensure that reporting requirements are met.
* Assist with volunteer events such as planting days, clean-ups, and community events.
* Represent the Watershed Council at community and professional meetings.

Position Requirements:
* Experience in restoration of riparian and wetland plant communities in the Pacific Northwest.
* Ability to identify native plants in the field and in a nursery setting. * Abilty to work on complex projects with timely management of required tasks. * Ability and willingness to work outdoors, in inclement weather, and in steep hazardous terrain.
* Ability to operate power tools and hand tools needed to complete restoration work.
* Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office software products.
* Regular access to a reliable vehicle.
* U.S. Citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
Preferred Qualifications:
* A genuine enthusiasm for conservation and the mission and vision of the Scappoose Bay Watershed Council.
* A good sense of humor and the ability to adapt to changes in schedule and a busy environment.

* Ability to create project maps using GPS or other mapping tools.
* Knowledge of chemical and mechanical control techniques for noxious weeds.
* A background in hydrology and/or engineering, preferably with a focus on stream and/or wetland restoration.

Position Summary: The Columbia County Weed Control Coordinator will coordinate weed control activities within Columbia County through work with three county watershed councils, spray crews, and the SWCD District Manager to track spray sites, number of control years, and effectives. The position will be responsible for incorporating new sites into the database and coordinating spray activities accordingly. The Control Coordinator will assist with project specific weed control outreach and development including grant research/writing and coordinating education programs, presentations and workshops.

ORGANIZATION’S MISSION:  The City of Gresham’s Department of Environmental Services (DES) provides services essential for a healthy, sustainable community. The Maps & Data Services program in DES provides mapping assistance and support, and coordinates the Department’s Geographical Information System development and maintenance. We maintain infrastructure mapping, coordinate Global Positioning System activities, and support DES map printing facilities. 
POSITION SUMMARY:  The GIS Technician in DES’ Maps and Data Services Program will perform technical work in support of GIS functions for the Department of Environmental Services. Under direction, the technician will perform entry and intermediate level tasks associated with maintaining and updating layers of GIS for engineering and operations to include water, wastewater, watershed management, transportation and parks infrastructure. This position may directly support field operations including data collection and processing with mobile mapping systems using GPS and/or ArcPad. The GIS Technician is also responsible for preparing maps displaying layers and attribute data from spatial databases, documenting data, performing QA/QC, and basic spatial analyses. This is an AmeriCorps position with the newly created Professional Placement program (P2) and offered through the Northwest Service Academy’s Lower Columbia Center. Alison Wallisch, P2’s Newest Member!

Neighbors West-Northwest recently hired Alison Wallisch as their Neighborhood Clean Up Program Coordinator. Alison earned her Bachelor’s degree in Politics/Environmental Studies from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. She boasts an array of experience in the environmental field, including her work with Portland Energy Conservation, Inc., Sun Light and Power in Berkeley, CA, and the Transportation and Land Use Coalition in Oakland, Ca, Alison also served as an AmeriCorps member with the Student Conservation Association in Tallahassee, FL in 2006.
